COSTA RICA // CHASING WATERFALLS

If you had to pick one waterfall to visit in Costa Rica, the Llanos de Cortez Waterfall should be it. Well, that’s what my trusted Lonely Planet travel guide book states.

Going on the recommendation of what I consider the Travel Bible I felt it would be worth the drive and conveniently managed to incorporate it into the routing of our three day Costa Rica tour.

I can only describe this absolutely stunning waterfall as a majestic piece of mother nature. The waterfall cascades down off the rocks in such a graceful way that it is truly mesmerising to watch.

The place isn’t heaving with tourists either so you really do get to appreciate the beauty of it without it feeling over crowded.

Located slightly south of Liberia this waterfall really is in the middle of nowhere. NOTE: It is NOT easy to find but is damn well worth it if you do manage to get there.

The recently built highway isn’t taken into consideration when being guided there by Google Maps. The only way to access the exit off the main road is if you are heading to the waterfall from the direction of Liberia. The other option is to take a public bus from Liberia where you can rely on someone else to get you there.

It’s currently free to access however there are touts hanging around making you pay a couple of dollars for parking. Visit this pretty much unknown beauty in Costa Rica before they capitalise on it – they’re already building pay booths and security guard stations in the area.
